Happy Birthday, Michael Bishop

Part and parcel of working on a site dedicated to classic SF is the sad but inevitable truth that many of our authors – among them some of the giants of 20th century science fiction and fantasy – are no longer with us. Death and taxes, as the saying goes (although, judging by recent revelations about the financial practices of the rich and powerful, perhaps we could remove ‘taxes’ from the list of universal certainties).

It is a delight, therefore, to be able to wish a happy birthday to someone who is very much still with us: two-time Nebula Award-winner, Michael Bishop. Nominated for pretty much all of the major SF awards, over a career spanning more than forty years, Michael Bishop has produced a highly-regarded body of work, with his novels of anthropological science fiction bringing frequent comparison with Ursula LeGuin.

We are delighted to have Michael’s work available on the SF Gateway, and especially pleased to be publishing two of his novels on the SF Masterworks list: the Nebula-winning No Enemy But Time is available now, and Transfigurations will be published in just two days’ time on November 14th.

Happy Birthday, Michael Bishop!

You can find Michael Bishop’s work via his author page on the SF Gateway website, and read more about him in his entry in The Encyclopedia of Science Fiction.
