Biographical Notes

Hilary runs her knitwear company from her studio in Orkney. Since 2011 she has been designing winter accessories: hats, mittens and scarves, sending these out to independent boutiques, department stores and customers all over the world, from London to Tokyo.

Abi Daker

ABI DAKER is a British illustrator who lives and works in Cyprus with her husband and son. She studied Art at the University of Reading and has since worked on children's books and as an archaeological illustrator; she also specialises in illustrated maps and architectural subjects. Bev Speight is an artist, illustrator, designer and educator who teaches at Middlesex University. She was previously creative director for a major book publisher and, amongst many other clients, has worked extensively on high profile campaigns for the BBC.

Bob Purnell is a writer, broadcaster, lecturer and award-winning garden designer who also runs a small nursery that specializes in container plants. He writes for numerous gardening publications including BBC Gardeners World.

Charlie Burton

Charlie Burton is a journalist based in London. As Senior Commissioning Editor of GQ he writes everything from celebrity profiles to political opinion. In 2015, he started the magazine's monthly how-to column, 'Bring Your "A" Game', which inspired this book. He is a graduate of Lincoln College, Oxford, and was formerly the Associate Editor of Wired.

Charlotte Cosby

Head of creative, Charlotte Cosby, has been working with Farrow & Ball for the past eight years. Charlotte began her career in finance, but she soon realized that her heart was in the creative world and she moved to Farrow & Ball in 2006. She has full responsibility for creative direction, including product development, brand identity, photography, showroom design and much more. Charlotte is passionate about pattern, colour and design and spends much of her free time redecorating her beautiful Victorian apartment by the sea.

Chetna Makan

Chetna Makan was born in Jabalpur, an ancient city in central India. She has a degree in fashion and worked in Mumbai as a fashion designer before moving to the UK in 2003. Chetna reached the semi-final of The Great British Bake Off in 2014, and her first book, The Cardamom Trail, is a celebration of baking with Indian flavours. She has a very popular YouTube channel 'Food with Chetna' where she shares her creative flair for food.

Christie Goodwin

Christie Goodwin is a British photographer with a career that spans over 35 years. She has worked for Ed Sheeran, Katy Perry, Taylor Swift, One Direction, Paul McCartney, Rod Stewart and other top recording artists. Christie's work appears on CDs, DVDs and tour merchandise, and in international publications, books and exhibitions. When not on the road in a tour bus, Christie is at home in London, where she regularly shoots as official photographer for the Royal Albert Hall. Clara Drummond

Artist Clara Drummond was awarded first prize for the BP Portrait Award in 2016, In 2017 Drummond was commissioned by Her Majesty the Queen to do an Order of Merit portrait which is now part of the Royal Collection. In addition she was awarded the Bulldog Trust Award by the Royal Society of Portrait Painters and the Young Artist of the Year award by the Society of Women Artists. She is a tutor at The Royal Drawing School.

Clodagh Mckenna

Clodagh McKenna is a chef, restaurateur and broadcaster who studied in France and New York and trained and worked at Ballymaloe. She is the author of five books and runs a restaurant in Dublin called Clodagh's Kitchen. Cynthia Emerlye was born in Rhode Island, USA. Growing up in a creative family, she was introduced to homey and fine crafts at a young age. Her work is detailed and elegant, convoluted and richly feminine in nature, recalling the lush illuminated manuscripts of the Renaissance and the detail of William Morris. Her floral designs are highly distinctive and have been adapted to many decorative and commercial uses.
