Another Update On The Gollancz Open Submissions

As many have noticed the two-month deadline  we set ourselves for responding to all submissions has passed.

We are truly sorry about this as we have been trying our hardest to get through  them, but there are just not enough of us to go through them quickly and still give each one the care and attention we feel we should. That’s the bad news.

The good news is we have finished the first round of submissions. This means we have looked at EVERY SINGLE SUBMISSION (that’s 1800+ envelopes, 93600 pages, 28 million words or 234 books to put it into perspective) and now we have a pile of manuscripts that’s made it into the next round – AKA the ‘second-look pile’.

We’re working our way through the second-look pile. This contains about 200 manuscripts that we felt needed more attention to properly evaluate. Although the waiting must be frustrating – please know it is for good reason. We now have an amazing pile of manuscripts to work our way through and while this is exciting, we need to take our time in order to give each one the attention it deserves. And so, this now has led to us missing the two month deadline we promised you. We’re working through the second-look pile as fast as we can and hope to be done within a few months. We will, of course, update you on here if this changes.

So, we’re sorry we haven’t finished! We’re doing our best and hope that you all understand the delay. Don’t panic if you haven’t heard anything, and we will do our best to resolve any uncertainty about where your submission stands once we’ve finished the entire process.

All the best,

Team Gollancz
