Orion Audio and Hachette Audio have jointly acquired world audio rights from Anna Carmichael and Ben Fowler at Abner Stein (on behalf of the Howard Morhaim Literary Agency) for the full works of fantasy legend, David Gemmell. A perennial Sunday Times bestseller, Gemmell was a staple of the UK fantasy scene until his untimely death in 2006.
Between Orion Audio and Hachette 33 titles, not previously available in audio, will now be moving into production including; LEGEND and the DRENAI series, the RIGANTE series; and the TROY series – completed posthumously by Stella Gemmell. This will mean the entire, unabridged backlist of Gemmell will now be available to an audio audience for the first time, with the first titles published this summer. In order to ensure people with sight loss can enjoy Gemmell’s works, the publishers are collaborating with the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) to make the titles available via the charity’s Talking Books service.
The first new recording released is Gemmell’s never-before-seen crime novel, RHYMING RINGS, published in tandem with its first hardback outing in May 2017. Gemmell’s most famous work, LEGEND, for which the DAVID GEMMELL LEGEND AWARD is also named, will follow in June.
