Joy Larkcom
Authors:
Joy Larkcom

'Larkcom is a marvellous grower and writer, and so inspirational. This book not only offers her many years of wisdom on how to grow edible plants, but also shows many ways of doing so as beautifully as possible.' Monty Don, Daily MailJoy Larkcom believes passionately that a vegetable garden, whatever its size, can be as beautiful as a conventional garden of flowers and shrubs. In Creative Vegetable Gardening she shows how the principles of good design can be applied to a kitchen plot and how to use the vibrant textures, colours and forms of vegetables, herbs and fruit to create glorious effects and intriguing patterns without jeopardizing their productivity. Inspirational colour photographs of potagers and kitchen plots capture the essence of the creative approach to vegetable growing. Techniques are described in clear stages and illustrated with full-colour step-by-step artworks, while an A-Z directory includes more than 150 edible plants with key facts on their cultivation, supplemented with ideas on how to grow them to maximum ornamental effect. Beautifully illustrated, intricate plans of five types of potager - formal, informal, small, urban and winter - add to the wealth of inspirational information.

Paint and Colour in Decoration

Tom Helme
Authors:
Tom Helme

A fascinating journey through 400 years of paint and colour from Farrow & Ball, longtime masters of professional paint-making, Paint and Colour in Decoration celebrates the work of some of the greatest names in interior design and reveals the techniques and materials they pioneered. Paint explores the paint-making process and the varying effects produced by different formulations, finishes, and painting methods, and examines the ways by which these evolved. Through a wealth of illustrations and indepth analysis, the book provides a history of colour in painted decoration, revealing how the generally muted colours of the 17th and early 18th centuries gave way to the lighter, brighter palette of the late 18th century, the strong intense shades of the Regency period, the rich polychrome of the Victorian era, and the unprecedented diversity and eclecticism of the twentieth century, culminating in the explosion of interest in historic or traditional colours today. A source of inspiration for professional and amateur decorators and interior designers alike, Paint contains a wealth of ideas and practical.
