Tradescant's Diary, a column of garden jottings, first appeared in the RHS magazine, The Garden, in June 1975. Hugh Johnson was its author (in addition to his being Editorial Director of the magazine) and it became a monthly fixture for the RHS's committed gardeners. Hugh's writings are filled with an eclectic mixture of topical, whimsical and humorous anecdotes and are organised to follow a gardener's monthly calendar. Under the name Tradescant's Diary, a name taken from John Tradescant, gardener to Lord Cecil at Hatfield House and to King James I, who was one of the first men to introduce plants from foreign countries to his own garden, Hugh's writings appeared in The Garden from 1975-2006, in Gardens Illustrated in 2007, and in 2008 still appear as monthly blogs through his own website (www.tradsdiary.com).

He is a graduate of Lincoln College, Oxford, and was formerly the Associate Editor of Wired.

Dave Broom

Award-winning author and whisky expert Dave Broom has been writing about whisky for 25 years as a journalist and author. He has written eight books, two of which (Drink! and Rum) won the Glenfiddich Award for Drinks Book of the Year. He has also won the Glenfiddich Award for Drinks Writer of the Year twice and recently won the extremely prestigious IWSC Communicator of the Year Award. In 2015 Tales of the Cocktail presented Dave with the Best Cocktail & Spirits award, soon to be followed by the Golden Spirit Award in 2016.Over his two decades in the field, Dave has built up a considerable international following with regular training/educational visits to France, Holland, Germany, the USA and Japan. His remit has covered consumer features as well as business reports. He is also actively involved in whisky education, acting as a consultant to major distillers on tasting techniques as well as teaching professionals and the public. He was also one of the developers of Diageo's generic whisky tasting tool, the Flavour MapT.

David T. Smith

David T. Smith is an internationally renowned gin expert, judge and author. He chairs judging panels for the American Distilling Institute and the International Wine and Sprits Competition, as well as the Gin Masters competition. He is the winner of the 2016 Think Gin award for best communicator, and runs workshops on the art of distilling, as well as the drinks website Summer Fruit Cup.

Francesca Leung

Francesca Leung works in editorial, writes books and has written for Wallpaper*, Time Out London, ES magazine and ShortList. She also draws comics and her design work has been exhibited at the V&A museum. Her favourite things are pirates, Batman® and cake, and she spends her spare time playing Assassin's Creed® or losing at mahjong. She makes the best cup of tea in the world, according to herself. You would not want to live with her.

François Monti

François Monti is a journalist specialising in drinks and cocktails, based in Madrid. He is the author of a number of books, including Prohibitions, and writes a highly regarded blog, Bottoms Up.

Hugh Johnson

Hugh Johnson is the world's pre-eminent writer on wine. First published in 1977, his Pocket Wine Book sells hundreds of thousands of copies a year. His winning formula of insight, critical appraisal of the world of wine, plus valuable vintage news and wine recommendations has been often-imitated but never bettered. With www.JancisRobinson.com (subscribers in nearly 100 countries) and her flock of Twitter followers, she is something of an online pioneer as a wine communicator. She makes frequent visits to the USA to stay ahead of the crowd and, in the early 1980s, was the first British journalist to take a serious interest in American wine.

John Schreiner

John Schreiner is the dean of British Columbia circle of wine writers and anaward-winning author. In 1984, he wrote The World of Canadian Wine and since thenhe has written a number of wine books, including the bestselling British ColumbiaWine Country, The Wineries of British Columbia (recently revised), and Icewine:The CompleteStory, the first book on the subject.He is a graduate of the Germany Wine Academyand a member of several wine clubs.He has judged wines around the worldand is a keen amateur winemaker.He lives in North Vancouver, British Columbia.

John Vincent

John is co-founder of Leon, which now has more than 55 restaurants (including restaurants in Amsterdam, Utrecht, Oslo and Washington DC). He wrote LEON Naturally Fast Food with Henry Dimbleby, LEON Family & Friends with Kay Plunkett-Hogge, LEON Happy Salads and LEON Fast & Free with Jane Baxter and LEON Happy Soups with Rebecca Seal. He believes food has the power to delight, invigorate and bring people together. He thinks that our relationship with food should be positive and joyous and that we need to listen more carefully to our gut, eat more good fats, less sugar. And a whole lot more plants.

Julian Jeffs

Julian Jeffs became a barrister in 1958 and throughout his career worked as a QC,Bencher, and deputy High Court Judge. In his free moments he found time to beone of the founder members of the Cambridge UniversityWine & Food Society,President of the Circle ofWineWriters, and General Editor of the Faber winebooks.His first-hand experience of Spain came when he worked in the sherry tradein Jerez de la Frontera, and during hismany subsequent visits to the country he hasformed the basis of this and other books.He is the author of Sherry in this same series,and he regularly hosts tutored tastings on Spanish wines.

Kay Plunkett-Hogge

Kay Plunkett-Hogge is an acclaimed food and drinks writer, and the author of Aperitivo (Mitchell Beazley, 2017), Adventures Of A Terribly Greedy Girl (Mitchell Beazley, 2017), A Sherry & A Little Plate Of Tapas (Mitchell Beazley, 2016), Heat: Cooking With Chillies (Quercus, 2016) and Make Mine A Martini (Mitchell Beazley, 2014).In addition to her own books, Kay has co-authored a further six books, working with the award-winning chef Bryn Williams on his two books Bryn's Kitchen and For The Love Of Veg, Academy Award nominated actor Stanley Tucci on his second cookbook The Tucci Table, and with the American pizza guru Chris Bianco.
