Terence Conran has always believed that objects – and surroundings – that are plain, simple and useful are the key to easy living. Here are three projects to get you started on creating a contemporary living space.

Adam Juniper

Adam Juniper has had a longstanding interest in consumer technology, having written his first gear review for a magazine before he was old enough to drive. He's written and edited dozens of books, especially on photography, drones and now the arrival of the digital assistant. Obviously deep down he is yearning to say "Tea, Earl Grey, Hot" to the computer and be rewarded with the perfect refreshment, but for now he's putting his experience into identifying which of the tidal wave of "smart" gadgets are worth having by living the smart home dream in suburban London.

Alex Newson

Alex Newson is a curator at the Design Museum in London and a keen cycling enthusiast. He has worked with a number of cycling's most celebrated names and manufacturers, including Chris Boardman, Bob Haro, Graeme Obree, Team Sky, Pinarello, Colnago, Trek, Santa Cruz and Felt.

Amber Butchart

Amber Butchart is a BBC television and radio presenter, and an associate lecturer at London College of Fashion.Her series A Stitch in Time aired on BBC4, exploring the stories behind the clothes worn by some of the most fascinating figures in history. She presented From Rags to Riches for BBC Radio 4 and Civilisations Stories for BBC One.She is the author of four previous books, Fashion Illustration in Britain, The Fashion of Film, Nautical Chic and Amber Jane Butchart's Fashion Miscellany.

Arthur Potts Dawson

Arthur Potts Dawson is passionate about good food, eating well and making the most of what's fresh, local and seasonal. He was trained by the Roux brothers, Rowley Leigh and Pierre Koffmann. He went on to be head chef for Ruth Rogers & Rose Gray at the River Café, the Soho House Group at Cecconi's, Jamie Oliver at Fifteen and Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall at River Cottage HQ. He founded London eco-restaurants Acorn House and Water House for the Shoreditch Trust, and the annual Mrs Paisley's Lashings pop-ups with Jo Wood.Arthur has appeared on the BBC's Market Kitchen on numerous occasions, had his own show in C4's latest Food Fight season alongside Gordon, Jamie,Hugh and Heston, and was featured on C4's The People's Supermarket documentary this Spring. Arthur lives in London and Somerset with his partner and two children, and he's working on his next restaurant.

Catriona Gray

While working for House & Garden, Catriona Gray stumbled across the magazine's extensive archives. The leather-bound volumes gave no indication of the riot of design inspiration hidden inside. When not leafing though old volumes of magazines, Catriona can be found at Town & Country and Harper's Bazaar, and is reviews editor for the Society of Architectural Historians of Great Britain.

Conrad Gamble

Conrad Gamble is a writer and performance poet. He has been commissioned to write poetry for 'The Book of Everyone' as well as 'Suitcase Magazine' amongst others. He has performed for Secret Cinema and at various festivals, and also curates a monthly poetry night, Ear Smoke, in Hackney, London. Dan Doherty

Dan Doherty is a judge on the BBC1's primetime series, Britain's Best Home Cook. He was the Chef Director at London's Duck & Waffle, with a restaurant on the 40th floor of Heron Tower in the City of London and the more informal Duck & Waffle Local in London's West End. He won Tatler's Rising Star Chef award at their 2013 Restaurant Awards and the Guardian declared him 'among the high priests of Britain's culinary revival'.He has appeared on BBC 1's Saturday Kitchen and Channel 4's Sunday Brunch and regularly speaks and demonstrates at festivals and events including Taste London and Meatopia.

Dan Jones is a writer and editorial consultant living in London. He has previously written for i-D and Time Out magazine, and teaches at London College of Fasion and the University for the Creative Arts.

David Austin

David Austin is the creator of the English Roses, an entirely new style of roses that have achieved international recognition. With his eldest son David J. C. Austin, he owns one of the world's leading rose nurseries, David Austin Roses. At Albrighton in Shropshire the family-run business has created rose gardens containing over 800 varieties. More than 1.2 million roses are grown for sale every year and the team carries out one of the largest rose breeding programmes in the world, selecting each year's new introductions after eight years of trialling. Born in 1926, David Austin has been breeding and hybridizing roses for more than sixty years and is still very active at the nursery, devoting most of his time to developing new roses. His previous books on roses include the best-selling David Austin's English Roses (Conran Octopus), which won a Garden Writer's Guild Award. He was awarded the Victoria Medal of Honour by the Royal Horticultural Society in 2003 for his services to horticulture and the Dean Hole Medal by the Royal National Rose Society. He has received an Honorary MSc from the University of East London for his work on rose breeding, and in 2007 was awarded an OBE.

Diana Henry

Diana Henry is one of our best-loved food writers. She has a weekly column in the Sunday Telegraph and also writes for BBC Good Food, House & Garden and Waitrose Weekend, as well as being a regular broadcaster on BBC Radio 4. Diana has won numerous awards for her journalism and books, including Cookery Journalist of the Year from the Guild of Food Writers (three times, most recently in 2015), Cookery Writer of the Year at the Fortnum & Mason Food and Drink Awards in 2013 and 2015 and Cookery Book of the Year for Simple at Fortnum & Mason Food and Drink Awards 2017. Eric Lanlard

Master Patissier and twice winner of the prestigious Continental Patissier of the Year at the British Baking Awards, Eric Lanlard has earned himself an international reputation for superlative baked creations for an impressive A-list clientele, including Madonna and Sir Elton John. Having trained in France, Eric moved to London where he ran the patisserie business for Albert and Michel Roux. He stayed there for five years before launching his own business, Cake Boy, a destination cafe, cake emporium and cookery school based in London. Eric is an experienced TV presenter, most recently with Channel 4's Baking Mad with Eric Lanlard. Heather Couper

Heather Couper is a past President of both the British Astronomical Association and the Society for Popular Astronomy. She is a Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society and the Institute of Physics, and a former Millennium Commissioner, for which she was awarded the CBE in 2007.

Imogen Dyer

Imogen Dyer is the unstoppable on-screen talent behind Weekly Imogen, the phenomenally successfully photography tips & tutorials YouTube channel which averages 50,000 views a day. Imogen and Mark began their photographic partnership in 2009 after a chance meeting at a village fete. Mark posted the images they shot together online and such was their success that they launched a YouTube channel to share their tips and techniques with Imogen presenting. Thus WeeklyImogen was born. In just four years it has become one of the biggest channels on YouTube, with over 150,000 subscribers and well over a million views a month with no sign of the growth slowing down.

Kay Plunkett-Hogge

Kim Houston

Kim Houston BSc (Hons), Dip (AS) CABC, CCAB is a consultant in feline behaviour. She graduated from Liverpool John Moores University with a First Class honours degree in Applied Psychology before gaining a Postgraduate Degree in Companion Animal Behaviour Counselling from the University of Southampton. Kim is a full member of the Association of Pet Behaviour Counsellors (APBC) and is also accredited through the Association for the Study of Animal Behaviour (ASAB) as a Certified Clinical Animal Behaviourist. She is one of the only cat behaviour specialists in the UK, and regularly contributes to magazines, the national press and TV. Kim owns and runs cat-astrophes.com, a cat behaviour consultancy, and works with clients worldwide helping to resolve cat behaviour problems by taking a holistic-, positive- and education-based approach. In most cases, behaviour can be successfully modified and she has prevented many cats from being euthanized or rehomed as well as improving the relationship of countless cats and their owners.When not consulting, she volunteers her services to Cats Protection in her local area, providing rehoming advice and addressing behaviour issues in rescue cats and kittens.
