Orion Books, a division of Hachette UK, publishes commercial, award-winning popular fiction and non-fiction, with an excellent record of publishing Sunday Times Top Ten Bestsellers. It is home to bestselling authors including Ian Rankin, Michael Connelly, Erica James, The Supervet, Fearne Cotton and Joanne Harris.

What you will be doing
Parental leave cover for the Orion Sales Director, you will be reporting directly to the Hachette Group Sales Director and responsible for maximising the sales opportunities for Orion, ensuring budgeted sales and profit targets are met and exceeded.
You will be responsible for leading the sales team to deliver optimum sales across the UK market, exceeding given budgets/targets by title, by customer, by list, across frontlist and backlist. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone to work on some of the biggest brands in the business.
This is a senior sales role so you will need to have experience working across UK trade sales in publishing and good managerial skills.

What we are looking for
We’re looking for a strong team player who is commercially astute and aware with experience working in UK trade publishing sales.

You’ll need to have excellent organisational skills, attention to detail, an ability to multi-task and prioritise, and an enthusiasm for working in a fast-moving commercial environment.

The key tasks of the role will include, but are not limited to the following:

• Manage and motivate the Orion Sale Team (2 reports)
• Monitor the sales budget ensuring that all of the sales teams are aware of targets and that their performance is measured constantly, driving sales with enthusiasm and commercial expertise.
• Constant review of Department, both process and people
• To participate in the Divisional strategy with the MD and Board
• To work closely with colleagues in Editorial, Marketing and Publicity teams to ensure that all aspects of publishing are aligned, and editorial ambitions are connected to sales plans.
• Manage customer spend to ensure we deliver maximum sales at minimum cost
• Monitor monthly sales figures

Excellent Microsoft Office skills (especially Excel and PowerPoint) and data analysis skills are essential.

Salary Range: Dependent on Experience
