Biographical Notes

Kathryn's passion for food stemmed from a childhood spent in the kitchen with her parents on the family farm in Ireland. After completing a degree in fashion, she rekindled her love of cooking at the Edinburgh School of Food and Wine. After years spent working in kitchens, catering and management, she went on to pen her successful blog The Lazy Baker (named as one of Cosmopolitan's favourite healthy food blogs) before she settled into her dream career as a food stylist and writer. Over her years working in the industry, she has found herself behind the scenes at Masterchef, as well as working on ad campaigns for brands such as Waitrose, Schwarts and Tate and Lyle. Cookbooks are her passion, and she has been involved with books from The Great British bake off series, as well as by authors and cooks such as Diana Henry, Harry Eastwood, Rachel Allen and Lorraine Pascale. At a time she could also be found working with food magazines such as Delicious, Jamie Oliver and BBC Good Food. Skinny Soups is Kathryn's first book and reflects her ambition to create enticing, unusual and exciting recipes which are high in nutrition and low in calories. Her ideas will help you create show-stopping dishes bursting with flavour for every meal of the day. Visit her online at www.thelazybaker.co.uk Instagram: The_LazyBaker

How to be a Gentlewoman

Lotte Jeffs
Authors:
Lotte Jeffs

Gentlewoman: A woman who blends old-fashioned values such as courtesy, kindness, and generosity, with a thoroughly modern and open-minded attitude; using her self-confidence to show up, not show off and her optimism to inspire others and build a happier life for herself.Women today are under so much pressure to be everything to everyone: to be cool, smart, fit, thin (but not too thin!), funny (but not bitchy!), a supportive friend, partner and family member. We want to be successful and liked at work, to have opinions about politics, art and literature as well as reality TV and Ariana Grande's love life. It's overwhelming. How to be a Gentlewoman presents an antidote to the multi-directional pressures of 21st century life. It cuts through the white noise and offers a compelling strategy for living well and thriving. The book weaves powerful memoir with practical advice (including mastering a power drill and the importance of making your bed every day) and a psychological deep dive into the importance of knowing and liking oneself. This English gentlewoman will teach you that real power comes from within.Rather than 'killing it', 'slaying in your lane', having to be a 'girl boss' or adopting the art of 'not giving a f**k', this book will teach us that gentleness has too long been underestimated. The true antidote to our brutal and aggressive world is to listen closely, be attuned and rediscover our soft power. It's not she who shouts the loudest who gets heard, it's she who understands the most that holds our attention.Praise for How to Be a Gentlewoman :'This is a brilliant & timely exploration of what it means to be a successful female in the 21st century' - Elizabeth Day

Goose Fat and Garlic

Jeanne Strang
Authors:
Jeanne Strang

With over 200 authentic recipes, including 20 new recipes, for local specialities such as creme de noix and the famous cassoulets, Goose Fat & Garlic presents the entire repertoire of dishes from South-West France. Strang takes us chapter-by-chapter through regional delicacies, starting with the basic soup and continuing through to the various meats, fruits, desserts and wines. 'Rich with anecdotes, legends, the stuff of real daily life in South-West France, Goose Fat & Garlic is the kind of book you'll carry right into the kitchen, focusing your energies on meaty daubes, hearty country soups, simple salads dressed with rich, local walnut oil. As you turn the pages you can almost smell the potatoes cooking away with the garlic and parsley, and hear the sizzle of the fire as the leg of lamb turns on the spit. Culling recipes from the baker's wife, the cafe owner, anyone who would listen, Jeanne Strang has produced a book with a ring of authenticity; a must for all cooks with a sense of curiosity and a dose of ambition.'
