Dr Robert A Emmons PhD

Robert A Emmons, PhD is Professor of Psychology at the University of California, Davis, where he has taught since 1988.He received his PhD degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He is the author of nearly 200 original publications in peer-reviewed journals or chapters and has written or edited five books, including The Psychology of Ultimate Concerns (Guilford Press), The Psychology of Gratitude (Oxford University Press), Thanks! How Practicing Gratitude Can Make You Happier (Houghton-Mifflin) and Gratitude Works! A Twenty-One Day Program for Creating Emotional Prosperity (Jossey-Bass).A leader in the positive psychology movement, Dr Emmons is founding editor and editor-in-chief of The Journal of Positive Psychology.He is Past-President of the American Psychological Association's Division 36, The Psychology of Religion. His research focuses on the psychology of gratitude and thankfulness in both adults and youth, and how they are related to human flourishing. His interests also include the psychology and spirituality of joy and grace as they relate to human flourishing.Dr Emmons has received research funding from the National Institute of Mental Health, the John M Templeton Foundation, and the National Institute for Disability Research and Rehabilitation. His research has been featured in dozens of popular media outlets including the New York Times, USA Today, US News and World Report, Newsweek, Time, NPR, PBS, and The Wall Street Journal.

Ella Kasperowicz

Ella Kasperowicz received her illustration licence from Falmouth University in 2017 and loves playing with pens, words and ideas. She is also one third of 'spud' collaborative, a trio in a long distance illustrationship making work together about food and travel.

Eric Zandona

Hattie Newman

Hattie Newman has earned an international reputation for her inimitable creations in the field of set design and papercraft. Found in advertisements, animations, physical spaces and books, her colourful work is loved by children, publishers and photographers alike. Hattie has directed a number of playful short films and animations, in which her wonderful paper sculptures magically come to life - most recently in a Christmas TV Commercial for the fashion brand, Lacoste. Although based at her London studio, projects regularly call Hattie away to work in New York, Paris, Valencia, Milan and other places far from her original home of Devon, England. Her clients include Lacoste, TFL, NSPCC, The Guardian, Honda, Canon and John Lewis. As well as practicing commercially, Hattie is also active in design education, giving frequent talks and workshops to adults, students and children. Recent guest lectures include Brief Design Festival in Madrid, Papier Hier in Amsterdam and Beyonderground Festival in Belgium. Ian Birch

Ian Birch is former Editorial Director of Hearst UK and Emap. He began his magazine career in the late 1970s as a reporter for Melody Maker, before moving to Smash Hits, where he was assistant editor for three years from 1984. His first launch and editorship came in the late 1980s with Sky magazine. At Hearst UK he oversaw brands like Cosmopolitan, Esquire, Harper's Bazaar, Men's Health and Good Housekeeping.Prior to working at Hearst, Birch was chief content officer at TV Guide in New York for four years; and before this he was editorial director at Emap for more than 10 years, where he helped to launch Red, Closer, Grazia and re-launch Heat.

Johan Tell

Johan Tell is a freelance writer and former editor of the travel magazine Vagabond. He has written several award-winning books and has also helped other adventurous travellers to tell their stories. Tell is a lecturer, mainly in the environmental field - and, above all, a cycling enthusiast.

John Austin

John Austin worked as a senior toy designer in the Boy's Research and Development Department at Hasbro Toys and has worked on popular brands like; Transformers, Star Wars, Iron Man, Spiderman, Jurassic Park, Tonka and GI. Skilled in 3D computer modelling, illustration, and creative thinking, he brings many of these talents to the creation of his book projects, as well as ever-increasing market awareness for each individual product he works on. He has also personally pitched projects to Warner Brothers and Cartoon Network. John graduated in 2002 from the University of Wisconsin-Stout with a Bachelor's degree in Industrial Design. He currently lives in Wisconsin with his wife and keeps busy working on contract product development, more books and other entrepreneurial endeavours. Also the author of Cubicle Warfare and Prank University.

John Vincent

John is co-founder of Leon, which now has more than 55 restaurants (including restaurants in Amsterdam, Utrecht, Oslo and Washington DC). He wrote LEON Naturally Fast Food with Henry Dimbleby, LEON Family & Friends with Kay Plunkett-Hogge, LEON Happy Salads and LEON Fast & Free with Jane Baxter and LEON Happy Soups with Rebecca Seal. He believes food has the power to delight, invigorate and bring people together. He thinks that our relationship with food should be positive and joyous and that we need to listen more carefully to our gut, eat more good fats, less sugar. And a whole lot more plants.

Kay Plunkett-Hogge

Kay Plunkett-Hogge is an acclaimed food and drinks writer, and the author of Aperitivo (Mitchell Beazley, 2017), Adventures Of A Terribly Greedy Girl (Mitchell Beazley, 2017), A Sherry & A Little Plate Of Tapas (Mitchell Beazley, 2016), Heat: Cooking With Chillies (Quercus, 2016) and Make Mine A Martini (Mitchell Beazley, 2014).In addition to her own books, Kay has co-authored a further six books, working with the award-winning chef Bryn Williams on his two books Bryn's Kitchen and For The Love Of Veg, Academy Award nominated actor Stanley Tucci on his second cookbook The Tucci Table, and with the American pizza guru Chris Bianco. Killian Fox

Killian Fox grew up in northwest Ireland and lives in London. He is the editor and co-founder of The Gannet, which acts as a conduit for his shameless nosiness about other people's eating habits. A regular contributor to the Observer Food Monthly, he has also written for the Guardian, The Times and the New Statesman, covering music, film, literature, travel and technology as well as food. He'd call himself an omnivore were it not for a lingering fear of boiled eggs.

Lia Leendertz

Lia Leendertz is an award-winning garden and food writer. She writes a monthly almanac column for the Telegraph, a monthly column for The Garden magazine and a long-running series on growing and eating seasonally for Simple Things magazine. She also contributes frequently to the Guardian and Gardens Illustrated. She is the author of several gardening books and the cookbook Petal, Leaf, Seed: Cooking with the garden's treasures. Matthew Biggs

Matthew Biggs trained at The Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, has presented numerous television programmes, notably Channel 4's Garden Club, and is a regular panellist on BBC Radio 4's Gardeners' Question Time. He has written several books, including RHS Lessons From Great Gardeners (also Mitchell Beazley). Matthew contributes to several magazines, including the RHS's The Garden, BBC Gardeners' World and Gardens Illustrated. He lectures at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, Oxford University Botanic Gardens and the Cookery School of Michelin-starred chief Jean-Christophe Novelli, and is Course Director of the Plants and Plantsmanship course at the English Gardening School.

Max Arthur

Max Arthur is rightly seen as one of Britain's leading oral historians of the Great War, collecting first-hand accounts of survivors from Britain's armed services, and allowing their stories to be told to a wider audience. Rebecca Seal

Rebecca has written about food and drink for the Financial Times, Evening Standard, the Observer, the Guardian, Red and The Sunday Times. Her cookbooks include Istanbul: Recipes from the heart of Turkey and Lisbon: Recipes from the heart of Portugal, as well as LEON Happy Soups and LEON Happy One-pot, both of which she co-authored with John Vincent. She is one of the food and drink experts on Channel 4's Sunday Brunch. She believes that with the right skills, and just a bit of knowledge, everyone can eat well and hopes that her writing goes a little way towards helping that happen. She lives in London with her husband and two small daughters.
